The Elite version: a modest annual fee, a lower APR than the Assent, the same cash-back-at-select-merchants rewards structure, a refundable deposit at the standard minimum, reports to all three bureaus.

The annual fee buys a lower APR, which matters only if you carry a balance — and credit-builders generally shouldn't carry balances. If you'll pay in full every month, the fee-free Assent is the better choice. If you'll occasionally carry a balance, the lower rate could save more than the annual fee in interest over a year of meaningful carried balance. Run the math on your expected usage; for most credit-builders the no-fee Assent wins.
