First Latitude Assent is a secured card with cash back at select merchants, a small return on payments, no annual fee, a refundable security deposit at the standard minimum, and reporting to all three bureaus.

Among secured cards aimed at the no-credit/poor-credit tier, the no-annual-fee structure is a meaningful advantage. Most fee-free secured cards have similar terms and the choice often comes down to which approves you fastest. The rewards program has the same "high rate at select merchants" structure as the other First Latitude and First Progress cards — useful if you happen to shop at participating merchants regularly, otherwise effectively a baseline return on payments. Reasonable starter secured card; not differentiated enough to choose over Capital One Quicksilver Secured (flat-rate rewards on everything, no deposit-account requirement) if both approve you.
