The bonus cap is low enough that even maxing it doesn't clear the first-year fee. After year one, the ongoing fee is recoverable if you consistently hit the category cap, but only if the rewards are real (Destiny's terms describe redemption mechanics with minimums and conditions worth reading carefully). For anyone who actually qualifies for a Capital One QuicksilverOne or a Mission Lane Cash Back, those cards earn more for less.
