The Venture X is Capital One's premium travel card and an unusually clear value proposition: an annual travel credit, anniversary miles, Priority Pass and Capital One Lounge access, a competitive welcome offer, elevated rates on hotel and car rental bookings through Capital One Travel, and a strong flat baseline.

The math: the travel credit plus the anniversary miles offset most of the annual fee for anyone who books any Capital One Travel in any given year. That means the card is effectively free at minimum and net-positive if you use the lounge access or the portal rates. The Chase Sapphire Reserve costs significantly more for comparable benefits with arguably stronger transfer partners; the Amex Platinum costs even more with better lounge breadth but a fragmented credit stack. For most travelers below the absolute top tier, the Venture X is the most cost-rational premium card on the market.
