The Avant Card is a no-frills unsecured card aimed at people who can't get approved elsewhere — no rewards, no welcome bonus, fee-free, with an APR at the high end of the subprime range. That last number is the entire story: at this APR, carrying any meaningful balance will outrun whatever credit-building benefit you'd get from having the card.
Use case is narrow. You pay in full every month, you're using it strictly to build payment history, and you graduate to a real rewards card within a year or two. If you're going to carry a balance at all, a secured card with a deposit-backed lower APR costs less in interest over a year than this card costs in a single month of revolving balance.
